Día de Muertos + Latin Festival — Breckenridge, October 17–18, 2025
Join us for Día de Muertos + Latin Festival, a vibrant two-day event in the heart of Breckenridge, Colorado. From October 17–18, 2025, the plaza and arts districts transform into a vivid homage to Latin American tradition—inviting families, neighbors, and visitors to come together to remember ancestors, celebrate creativity, and strengthen the bonds of community. This festival is proudly presented by U.S. Bank, and produced in conjunction with the Breckenridge International Festival of Arts (BIFA).
What to Expect: Tradition Meets Artistry
Visually Striking Decorations – Expect to be transported by larger-than-life calaveras (skeletons) by Denver-based artist Cal Duran, garlands of papel picado fluttering above walkways, and a community ofrenda (altar) where you’re invited to leave an offering. These installations embody the essence of Día de Muertos—honoring the past, celebrating the present.
Cultural Performances & Ceremony
- Friday evening begins with Lo que La Tierra Abraza / What the Land Embraces, an evocative exhibition by artist Juan Fuentes elevating the voices of local immigrants. Then, move into a candlelight vigil featuring traditional Aztec dance, performed by Grupo Huitzilopochtli, one of Denver’s longstanding Aztec dance organizations.
- Saturday bursts with energy: live music, dance troupes, artisan performances, and Latin rhythms that will carry you through the day and into a lively Latin Dance Night.
- Interactive Arts & Workshops
Immerse yourself in art-making: workshops include papier picado crafts, sugar skull decorating, pan de muerto decoration, photo workshops with Juan Fuentes, and Ojo de Dios weaving. Many are drop-in, though some require onsite registration at the start times. Great for families, creatives, and anyone wanting a hands-on experience. - Artisan Market & Culinary Treats
The Latin Market is the largest yet — vendors selling handcrafted goods, artisanal objects, and Latin-inspired food. Local favorites like La Perla bring authentic flavors; there will be food, drink, and community gathering spaces to enjoy and explore.
Featured Artists & Performers
- Grupo Huitzilopochtli
The Mexican Aztec dance group with roots going back 40 years in the Denver region. Under Captain Raul Chavez, 5th generation danzante from Mazatlán, they present The Battle Dance. The performance tells a story of two Aztec warriors, of life, death, and the journey of souls into Mictlan, the spirit world. - Dwende Flamenco
A powerful blend of dance, Spanish guitar, vocals, and percussion. Their performance brings visceral emotion and classic flamenco artistry to the stage. - Tres Tumbao
A Cuban trio that infuses the festival with tropical rhythms, Latin classics, and heart-moving melodies that invite celebration through sound. - Chihuahua-Honduras Folk Dance Group
Dedicated to dance traditions of Chihuahua, Honduras, this group inspires by preserving cultural dance, promoting creative expression, and highlighting the diversity within Latin dance heritage. - Cal Duran (Artist)
An Indigenous, mixed-heritage, Two-Spirit, Latine artist and arts educator based in Colorado. Cal’s work bridges myth, ritual, and identity—exploring hybrid roots to create art that honors ancestral traditions. His installations for Día de Muertos are featured in respected venues—Denver History Museum, Denver Botanic Gardens, museums across Colorado. - Juan Fuentes (Artist)
Born in Chihuahua, raised in the Northside neighborhood of Denver, Fuentes’ photography, installations, and community-based work capture the everyday life of immigrants and Chicanos. His voice is both intimate and monumental, part of major exhibits region-wide.
