Dive deep into the world of Marie Ulven Ringheim, known by her stage name, girl in red (yes, all in lowercase). Her passion for music was ignited by her grandfather, setting her on an unexpected journey. Although she initially planned to study music, the idea of becoming a musician seemed out of reach. Little did she know, her bedroom would transform into her personal music studio, where she taught herself piano, guitar, and music production.
Her journey took a significant turn when she received a Blue Yeti microphone from her dad at the age of 16 in 2015. Under the alias “Lydia X,” she began sharing Norwegian tunes on SoundCloud. However, when her guitar teacher disapproved of her songwriting passion, she decided to go her own way. Thus, “girl in red” was born after a text message mishap, and the rest is history. Her debut single, “I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend,” debuted on SoundCloud in November 2016 and quickly amassed 5,000 streams in just five months. A feature on NRK Urørt propelled her online following to new heights.
Fast forward, and girl in red has earned numerous nominations and awards, including the 2018 Norwegian Newcomer of the Year at the GAFFA Awards Norway and the 2020 Artist of the Year at P3 Gull. She also claimed Album of the Year and more at the Spellemannprisen in 2022, along with the 2022 Telenor Culture Prize.
